Genetic algorithm in urban design

NOvember 2024
Academic project, Toronto, Canada

Due to population growth and concentration, many high-density cities such as Hong Kong are building more skywalks, which will also greatly affect the city's wind and sunshine environment. Another background is that parametric design has been applied to all aspects of urban design, from scheme formation, scheme evaluation to user interaction and public decision-making. In particular, genetic algorithms provide rational support for finding optimal solutions for multiple objectives. The research objective is to use environmental data to evaluate design plans and to use environmental data to assist in shaping the block form.
